The process of European integration began within the political science subfield of international relations
The European Union is a unique model of integration among European national states.

International Relation definitions:
International Relations- concerns interactions among states or at least between members of national executives. In terms of integration, the only questions it is capable of asking are those about whether there should be more or less of it, those about the interaction of national interests in an intergovernmental arena
International Relations are about cross-border transactions or about the development of forms of world society-reflecting the fact there is no real world essence.
