new material is presented in dialog form and through various drills;
there are little or no grammar explanations;
vocabulary is learned in context;
pronunciation and oral skills are highly important;
immediate error correction;
dependency on memorization, mimicry;
much use of tapes, language labs and visuals;
little or no mother tongue is permitted.
