Question of German Identity and EU Policy

In the essay “Question of German identity and EU policy” I am going to deal with the problem of forming of German identity from its very first historical background to nowadays in the framework of Germany’s geopolitical situation during the centuries and in the framework of the European Union to describe the problems and the influence of German identity in the Europe Union politics. I have chosen this theme for my essay because first of all I am interested to understand how is the German identity formed, how it has changed century by centuries and how strong is the influence of German identity in the Europe Union after its reunification. Another aspect why I have chosen this theme is concerning the Germany’s influential role in making of the European Union and nowadays concerning the problems of European identity making and German identity status. The theme of my essay has been so important since the beginning of emerging of the Holy Empire of Roma until the nowadays Germany’s role not only in the Europe, but also in the whole world because the nation’s identity is one of the factors which helps or disturbs to coordinate the state politics also in supranational level of governance. The aim of the essay “Question of German identity and EU policy” is to introduce with the various definitions of ‘German identity’, explaining how it has changed according to historical changes of Germany’s politics and analyzing the European Union politics toward identity aspect according to Germans identity at the time when Europe is looking for its own European identity.
