The Court System of Latvia

Latvia has a basic three level court system – district or city courts, regional courts and the Supreme Court with an additional Constitutional Court. These courts have jurisdiction on civil, criminal and administrative cases.

District or city courts are the lowest level. Regional courts function as appeal courts and as the courts of first instance for larger civil lawsuits and certain kinds of serious criminal cases. All regional courts have separate departments for civil and criminal cases. …
